make me wanna holla, sang marvin gaye

holla

I’m thinking since the Cosby confession ( from back in 2005, per the court records being recently made public ) … perhaps a portal has opened and the rest of us can now move forward as well too.

I say this because in the last 24 hours alone , several female friends have admitted to me their own personal tales of rape – secret confessions we were shamed into keeping, ugly memories buried deep !

It’s interesting that because of the Cosby reveal, the dialogue about rape and sexual abuse has gone up a notch – with even the naysayers taking new note.  One sister  pondered under one of my facebook posts, “I’m shocked,”  (per the Cosby announcement).  Why, I wondered back out loud.  So many of us knew – and tried to tell, but like the 40 + women who have come forward against Cosby, we knew and have known for years, decades, centuries even, that no one wants to hear our truth when is comes to rape.

But now since Cosby has been caught alluding to his crimes, I can now tell mine  and other women can tell their own tales of being on the receiving end of such atrocities.  And no, for me,  Cosby wasn’t the assailant , he just put a recognizable face on a crime that is so creepily pervasive.

And let me be clear, ‘innocent until proven guilty in a court of law’ has no bearing on my block.  Universal law reigns supreme here.

And for that reason alone, now ‘eye’ can release and let go.

May the healing continue.  Ase’~

This dance thang has been ‘sum’ kind of journey.  ‘Sheba’ – my dance alter ego – was buried so deep in side me – I didn’t  really think she was gonna make her self known in this life time – I mean, at 50 – who thinks about dancing …. and on and around a pole no less.  But ‘Sheba’ made it clear – it was bout  that time.  And now, here at 54 – I think I kinda got ‘the hang’ of it !

But no journey is done alone.  So lo and behold – all my teachers appeared as needed to lovingly nurture my Sheba self.  So many of them, nestled inside of so many sacred temples posing as dance studios around the city.  I have to shout out Luscious Maven, Be Spun,  Aeriform Arts , Choreography House and Polistics …  also shout out Allure and Evolve for classes taken there,  and then there are my new finds, PinkPoleParty.org and Womack and Bowman.

I have a special hug that goes to Allison Jones though, and her intimate goddess space Tilt Studios.  Tilt is where the majority of my dance  and photography work takes place and Jones is my tour guide as I take the rabbit hole down deeper ( or is that up higher?)  into the sacred arts.  Here is where my creativity thrives and I get to alchemize my pole magic as I  explore costuming, sensual dance movement and my own music mixes.

A goddess knows that when she shares, more abunDance comes her way ..  so I  will let you in on a well kept secret – Jones is available for private coaching  and pole lessons and her studio space is available for limited rental for dance photography and filming. You gotta know somebody to get to her though – in the entertainment business, we publicist say – ‘ya gotta have an in’ – lol.  Lucky for y’all – you know me … so if you need to know more about Tilt and reserve some time there – hit me up …
